The holiday season is here and it is time to find a Christmas tree. With images of a perfect holiday season going to pick out a tree at the tree farm it is grown on can be a family event that is memorable. Some trips can be a Chevy chase type of adventure and some times it is a Hallmark moment. Either way a trip with the family can be the material to create holiday memories to be cherished long into the future. Personally there are two family stories of picking a Christmas tree and farms here in Connecticut that resulted in family members being chased by Cows. One was years ago when you could tag a tree early in the year at Jones Hill Tree Farm and walking through one of the fields one of the farms dogs wanted to show off to our dog that was running in the field and started herding the cows. It happened to be heading them right into where my small brother was standing. Fortunately our father was able to run down to him and grab him up so he would not get trampled. Every thing was fine but that excursion will never be forgotten. Oddly enough another time we were scouting a field at a tree farm and did not know a Bull was also there. When he found us the charged out direction and there was scramble to get over and push over the stone wall the kids and adults that did not move fast enough. Depending on where you live and how far you want to travel there are a number of places to go that range from small fields that grow small quantities of Christmas trees to very large operations that create a festive holiday event type of atmosphere. One such place would be the Jones Hill Christmas tree farm in Shelton, Ct. The people that go to pick out a tree come with wreaths tied to the grill of the car and set up a tailgating event for hours in the parking lot to enjoy the atmosphere, be out side and pick the perfect Holiday tree.
